Help for Ankle Problems

Patients with chronic ankle instability frequently experience the feeling that their ankle may give way at any moment. While walking on uneven surfaces, stepping off a curb, going down the stairs or sometimes even just standing still the ankle may turn unexpectedly, causing pain and potentially a sprain. At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know these patients who have previously injured their ankles still want to maintain an active lifestyle, participating in sports and fitness activities. If you experience chronic ankle pain or weakness, or are recovering from an injury we have products that can help:

Gel Malleolar Sleeve—two discs of soft gel cushion both the medial and lateral sides of the ankle. Contained in latex-free fabric, they protect the ankle from impact, pressure and injury and provide support as well. Gel Malleolar Sleeve can be worn inside ski boots, cleats, roller blades and virtually any other type of sport shoe or boot. It comes in one size that will fit either the left or right foot. The sleeve is washable (by hand) and can provide long-term help with ankle problems.

J-Tape—our 100% cotton tape with a rubber-based zinc oxide adhesive is breathable and strong, yet gentle. It provides excellent immobilization with support and is preferred for strains and sprain. The tape is latex-free and tears easily both lengthwise and crosswise. J-Tape comes in  1-inch, 1.5-inch, and 2-inch sizes.

Self-Grip Compression Wrap—this unique, self-adhering tape provides maximum support and firm compression to ligaments, tendons and muscles. Self-Grip Compression Wrap will not stick to skin or hair and it will not come off in water. It is ideal for strains and sprains and for taping and strapping.

J-Ban Cohesive Wrap—this lightweight nylon wrap makes an excellent pressure bandage. It is self-adherent, made of non-woven material that sticks to itself but not to other materials or skin. J-Ban Cohesive Wrap holds well (even when stretched) but does not constrict. It is easy to hand tear cleanly with no exposed threads. J-Ban comes in 1- inch,  2-inch and 3-inch widths.

How to Take Care of Toe Troubles

They may seem small, but if you have a toe that’s hurting, here at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads understand it can be a big painful problem. We take it for granted when we walk, and our toes are what helps us push off and take a step. Toes also help us with our balance. Relief from toe pain is essential for staying active. Below are some of our top toe products:

Carbon Stabilizer Plates—patients who play sports on turf fields, like football and soccer, are at a particular risk for a condition known as turf toe. Coming to a very short stop or pushing off with extreme force can cause an injury to the big toe joint. Carbon Stabilizer Plates worn inside your shoes stiffen the sole of the shoe and limit the range of motion of the fore and midfoot, making the shoe less flexible to prevent overextending. These plates are also useful for patients that have hallux limitus, arthritis and metatarsalgia, among other conditions.

All Gel Toe Cap—if you’ve ever suffered with an ingrown toenail, you know how tender and painful it can be. Enter the All Gel Toe Cap with superior padding and soft gel tip to cushion and protect a hurting toe. Corns, hammertoes and toe injuries are other podiatric conditions that can benefit from this product. These pads are washable and reusable for long wear and are designed for use in all types of footwear.

Triple Toe Gel Crest Pad—if you suffer with hammertoes, the Triple Toe Gel Crest Pad will bring relief in two ways. The soft, stretchy premier gel can hold three toes together to keep them aligned with a toe crest pad on the bottom. With the toe crest on the top it helps hold toes down and straighten them while at the same time providing a cushioned barrier between toe tops and footwear.

That’s why we offer many products to treat this problem.

Made of soft foam, these pads feature a self-adhesive backing to keep them in the right spot. Prevention and Relief for Ingrown Toenails

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know that an ingrown toenail can be extremely painful and debilitating. The most common cause of ingrown nails is improper nail care. It is essential to trim nails straight across and not too short. Do not file toenails with rounded or curved edges. This can make it easy for skin to fold over the nail and start to become ingrown. Other possible causes of ingrown toenails include:

  • Heredity
  • Trauma, such as stubbing your toe or a heavy object falling on it. Also, activities that cause repetitive pressure and banging to the toe such as running or kicking sports can encourage ingrown nails.
  • Nail conditions such as fungal infections
  • Improperly fitting shoes. Shoes or socks that are too tight or shoes with narrow toe boxes that squeeze toes together can also cause ingrown nails.

Getting Relief

Your Podiatrist will recommend the best treatment for your ingrown toenail. It may be suggested that you start by soaking your nail in warm water several times a day and trying to gently massage the nail out of the skin—never attempt to cut the nail out! In some cases, a minor surgical procedure may be performed in the Podiatrist’s office to remove the nail’s border or root.

While you wait for your ingrown toenail to heal, we can offer relief from pain with the following products:

All Gel Toe Cap—a soft gel cap slips over your entire toe to ease discomfort and provide cushioning for painful nails. All Gel Toe Caps come in four sizes to fit any toe on men or women. These caps are designed to be used in all styles of footwear. They are washable and can be reused multiple times. An added benefit:  the All Gel Toe Cap releases mineral oil which softens and moisturizes the skin surrounding the nail.

Gel and Fabric Toe Cap—this cap is made of gel and fabric and is intended for all toes except the big toe. Like the All Gel Toe Caps, these Gel and Fabric Toe Caps provide comfortable cushioning and insulates the toe from shock and pressure. They also provide gentle compression which can help control swelling. We also offer this product in a package of 6.

Heel Pain Has Many Causes

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that there are multiple reasons why patients may suffer with heel pain. The most common is plantar fasciitis. With this disorder, the ligament the runs from your toes to your heel in the bottom of your foot becomes irritated or inflamed (most often from faulty bone structure in the arch of the foot). When the plantar fascia is inflamed, extra pressure and pain in the heel is the result.

There are other causes of heel pain as well. Arthritis, tendonitis, nerve disorders and stress fractures are other possible causes of discomfort in the heel. Your Podiatrist will conduct a physical examination of your foot and may also order x-rays or other imaging studies to determine the source of your pain. The treatment for your heel pain will depend on its root cause.

Products that Can Help

In the meantime, however, if your foot doctor has not told you to stay off your foot completely, we can offer some products that will help protect your heel and ease your pain.

Heel Grips—made of 1/8-inch sponge rubber, our Heel Grips hug your heel to prevent it from slipping around inside the shoe. It also provides cushioning for tender, sensitive heels. Heel Grips have a peel n’ stick adhesive backing that makes them easy to fit in your shoes.

This product provides superior relief for tender heels with every step for long-lasting comfort even when you need to be on your feet for a long period of time. The Gel Heel Cup is available in three sizes to fit every foot. It is a washable and re-usable pad that can be worn over and over again.

Gel Heel Pads—cushioned gel pads are designed for use in all styles of footwear. These Gel Heel Pads have a velvet soft top cover which offers additional comfort. They are latex-free and washable for repeated use.

Treat Your Bunion While You Sleep

Bunions, also known as hallux valgus, although readily identified by the visible bump on the side of the big toe, are really caused by changes in the bone structure of your foot. Defects in the biomechanics of the foot cause the big toe to begin to drift towards the second toe. As the toe moves out of place it causes the bones to become misaligned and the characteristic bump on the side of the toe is formed. At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know that bunions are a progressive disorder. That’s why it’s important to have a bunion evaluated by your Podiatrist in its earliest stages. We offer two products that can help slow the progression of bunions while your sleep.

Gel Bunion Night Splint—this splint goes along the side of your foot and hooks over your big toe to help properly align the toe. It has an adjustable Velcro mid-foot binder and gel all along the inside of appliance which helps comfortably stretch the muscles and tendons. The Gel Bunion Night Splint can help slow the progression of the hallus valgus. It features a sturdy leather exterior and is latex-free. It comes in two sizes to fit both men and women.,

Bunion Night Splint—this is another version of a splint that works the same way as the Gel Bunion Night Splint. It is latex-free, and the Bunion Night Splint can also be used after bunion surgery during the healing process.

Each bunion is different and progresses at a different rate. Your Podiatrist will use physical examination and x-rays to determine the best course of treatment and also if and when surgery is needed. We offer several other products as well, including the Gel Bunion Cushion, Gel Bunion Sleeve and Gel Toe Tubes that can help relieve painful symptoms and make wearing shoes more comfortable.

Arch Support Makes Exercise More Comfortable

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know that many patients can increase both their comfort and performance level in sports and fitness activities with the proper use of arch supports. If you have a low arch or flat feet, increased pounding of the foot due to repetitive actions like running can cause heel pain. This is because flattening of the arch puts increased pressure on the heel and also causes the inflammation of the plantar fascia—the long ligament that runs along the bottom of your foot.

We offer a number of products that can provide excellent arch support.  A few to consider include:

Gel Arch Pads—self-stick cushions of soft gel offer support for weak arches, high arches and pronation related foot problems. Designed to be used in all styles of footwear, the Gel Arch Pads are available in two thicknesses. Remove pad for at least three to four hours a day to allow feet to breathe. Pads are washable and can be re-used multiple times.

Arch Steppers—these flexible supports offer long-lasting comfort. Arch Steppers are scientifically contoured to keep your arch at its most efficient height, which helps eliminate pain. Made of flexible material with a ¾ length, these supports are lightweight and take up only minimal space in your shoes. They are also anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. In addition to your fitness shoes, arch steppers can be used in most dress shoes as well.

Arch Binder—an elastic sleeve slips over the foot and provides gentle compression to the arch, comfortably lifting and supporting the plantar fascia. The Arch Binder relieves pain in both the arch and the heel. The sleeve fits either the left or right foot. It can be washed and re-used over and over again.

Gel Pads Provide TLC for Neuromas

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that patients suffering with a neuroma experience a lot of pain in the ball of their foot. This benign condition occurs when a nerve becomes enlarged on the underside of the foot, usually between two toes. A neuroma can be caused by anything that compresses the nerves in the forefoot. Oftentimes, pointy or narrow shoes and high heels are the culprit, putting excess pressure on the ball of the foot. An injury or biomechanical deformity can also be at the root of a neuroma. Whatever the cause, many patients say the end result is a feeling that you’ve got a rock in your shoe all the time. Podiatrists have several treatment options available for this condition. To relieving pain during the healing process we have many products that will help:

Ball of Foot Cushion – Ultra Thin—this incredibly comfortable wrap contains a soft gel cushion inside which provides superior padding. The sleeve slips over the entire forefoot and a satin strap holds it firmly in place. The Gel Ball of Foot Cushion can be worn on either foot. It is washable, allowing you to re-use it over and over.

Gel Dancer’s Pad—soft gel pads are self-sticking and can be positioned on the ball of the foot for maximum comfort. They are designed to shift weight bearing away from painful regions and reduce pressure on a neuroma (or other condition which affects the ball of the foot). Gel Dancer’s Pads are designed for use in all styles of footwear. They are available in two different thicknesses and can be washed and re-used multiple times.

Poron Metatarsal Pads—this product provides great cushioning and also biomechanical support if a physical defect is part of the cause of your neuroma. The Poron Metatarsal Pads have a fully adhesive back and will not flatten or bottom out. They are extremely durable and come in three sizes.
