Toe Tubes Can Save Your Vacation

In the past, you may have had to sit out on site seeing tours, skip the shopping trips or miss out on museum visits when vacationing because of a sore toe. Many conditions, such as bunions, corns, blisters, ingrown toenails, hammertoes, bony protrusions and sore spots can make wearing shoes excruciating and severely limit your vacation activities. Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads has a solution: All Gel Toe Tubes.

Easy to Use

These soft cushion pads made of 100% pure silicone gel create a barrier between the toe and your footwear, which offers pain relief and protection from additional friction. The tubes offer soft padding that feels silky smooth against your skin and gives hours of long-lasting comfort and never gets too tight. All Gel Toe Tubes can be used with any style of shoes or sandals. Wash in warm water and allow to dry completely. When cared for properly, toe tubes can be used over and over.

Customize for Your Toe Issue

All Gel Toe Tubes are 4 ½ inches long and come in 5 sizes from small to XXLarge. Choose the right size to comfortably fit the circumference of your toe and then cut to the appropriate size for the area that needs to be protected.

Wash and dry your toe and foot before applying the toe tube. Be sure to remove the cushion for at least 3 to 4 hours each day to allow the skin to breathe. Do not apply toe tubes to an open wound. If any irritation or discomfort occurs from using this product, discontinue use right away and notify your podiatrist.

Say Goodbye to Sore Feet

Do you find that by the end of the day the balls of your feet just ache? This is a common complaint and we at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads have a way to alleviate that pain: Gel Ball of Foot Cushions. Pain in the ball of the foot can have several sources:

  • Fat pad atrophy—as you age the fat pad in this part of your foot begins to thin out
  • Dropped metatarsal head pain
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Calluses
  • Neuroma

Whatever the cause of the pain in the ball of your foot, Gel Ball of Foot Cushions can help. These durable gel cushions provide substantial cushioning for the painful areas on the bottom of your foot and offload metatarsal heads. They can be used in any shoes and will greatly increase your comfort when walking or standing for long hours. The pads come in two thicknesses to ensure a comfortable fit and have a self-stick surface making them easy to apply. The pads can be placed directly on the ball of the foot or behind it for maximum pain relief. Your podiatrist can advise you on the ideal placement based on your podiatric condition.

Application and Care

To use the Gel Ball of Foot Cushions, follow these simple steps:

  1. Wash your foot and dry completely. Do not apply any lotions, powders or ointments to the skin where the pad will be placed as this can dramatically decrease the effectiveness and life of the gel pad.
  2. Position the cushion with the hole comfortably placed on or behind the painful area of the ball of your foot.
  3. When ready to remove, simply gently peel the cushion away from the skin. (It is recommended that you remove the cushion for at least 3-4 hours each day to allow the skin to breathe.)

Gel Ball of Foot Pads are durable and reusable. Hand wash the gel pad with a mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. The self-adhering surface will renew once the pad is completely dry and it can be re-used many times if properly cared for.

Be aware, gel pads should not be placed on an open wound. If you experience any irritation or discomfort from the pad, remove immediately and notify your podiatrist of the reaction.

Help for Hammertoes

A common foot problem that can cause patients an immense amount of pain is a hammertoe. At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we offer solutions to help deal with this potentially debilitating condition.

Hammertoe

Hammertoes are a progressive condition. Although everyone recognizes the telltale bend in one or more toe joints of a hammertoe, this deformity starts out gradually. At first you may just notice your toe starting to bend downward, but over time, the bend becomes more pronounced and the toe becomes increasingly rigid in the deformed position. Secondary conditions such as corns and calluses may then form due to the pressure and friction the toe is now experiencing in its misaligned position while wearing shoes. As a podiatrist, Dr. Jill recognizes the importance of treating hammertoes while they are still somewhat malleable. She created a product to help greatly improve mobility and reduce pain and the risk of secondary conditions.

The Budin Splint

Hammertoes can develop on any toe but the big one. Although there are several potential causes of hammertoe, the most common is a muscle/tendon imbalance. The Budin Splint is constructed of comfortable but sturdy foam and elastic materials and it gently straightens the hammertoe. This allows it to lie straight, alleviating the pain on the top and tip of the toe. The Budin Splint is available for one, two or three hammertoes on the same foot. In addition to relieving discomfort, this product has several benefits:

  • It allows the toe(s) to bear weight normally so the patient can walk with their regular gait and thus prevents other foot and lower extremity conditions from developing due to an altered gait.
  • It does away with the unsightly bulge in the top of the shoe of the patient with hammertoe.
  • It will prevent the hammertoe from progressing to a worse state.

Wrap Straps

Another product that can help with re-positioning a hammertoe is the Wrap Straps. Made of thin, soft material, these comfortable straps can be custom cut to the appropriate length and then wrapped around the affected toes and secured with an adjustable Velcro closure.

Protection for Sore Toenails

ingrown toenails

If you have ever had an ingrown toenail, you know how painful it is. A toenail the grows downward and into the skin around the nail bed causes the area to become red, swollen and very tender to the touch. Sometimes you can work the nail out of the skin by soaking the toe in warm water several times a day and gently massaging the nail bed. Often, your podiatrist will have to remove the ingrown toenail. At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we have ways to help reduce the pain as your ingrown toenail heals.

Padding Brings Pain Relief

We offer two products that you can use to protect a tender toe. Both are caps that go over the entire toe, cushioning it and preventing painful pressure. One cap is a combination of fabric and gel and the other is an all-gel cap—both are latex free. These caps will relieve pain and allow you to wear shoes and continue with your daily activities until the toe is fully healed. Like all our products, the toe caps were designed by a podiatrist who truly understands the needs of patients with foot pain.  You can view the toe caps in our online catalog or contact us for more information.

Avoiding Ingrown Toenails

Some patients are particularly prone to ingrown toenails. The tendency for them can be inherited. They can also be caused by a trauma, repetitive banging of the toe (if you are a runner or soccer player, for example) or if there is another nail condition present, such as a fungal toenail. There are a few steps you can take to help prevent them from occurring:

  • Don’t wear shoes that have cramped toe boxes and squeeze toes together for long periods of time.
  • Keep nails trimmed straight across and not too short.
  • Never file toenails in a rounded shape or with curved edges.

You should also never attempt to cut out an ingrown nail or resort to “folk remedies,” like sticking a piece of cotton under the nail or cutting a notch in it. These just end up causing worse injuries and possibly a secondary infection as well.
