Black Friday Shopping Helpers

The count down to Black Friday has begun and we at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads know this means a very long day for your feet chasing down holiday shopping bargains, standing in lines and hurrying from store to store. While your wallet may be grateful, your feet may not be. Unless, that is, you take care to protect them before you head out. Below are some of our most popular products for protecting vulnerable areas on your feet.

U-Shaped Gel Callus Cushions—calluses develop on your feet in response to excessive pressure or another foot problem. Use our U-Shaped Gel Callus Cushions to prevent the affected part of your foot from becoming inflamed and painful. The shape of the pad allows the callus to be surrounded and thus transfers pressure from the callus to the cushion. Latex-free and washable, these cushions are designed to give long-lasting comfort in all styles of footwear.

All Gel Toe Cap—they may be little but if you have a sore toe it can put a pretty big crimp in your shopping day. If you are suffering with an ingrown toenail or have hammertoes our All Gel Toe Cap is your ticket to comfort. The soft gel cap slips over your entire toe providing protection and cushioning. Available in four sizes for the perfect, not too tight fit, these pads are also washable and can be reused many times. An added bonus, the padded toe tip contains mineral oil which is slowly released to moisturize the skin of the affected toe.

Full Length Orthotics—offering exceptional shock absorption, these orthotics also promote proper alignment of your feet. This can help not only your feet, but also help alleviate pain in your knees, hip and lower back. Full Length Orthotics are super-thin and lightweight yet sturdy and durable—the closest thing you’ll get to custom orthotics without a mold.

Ghoulish Foot Conditions

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that some foot diagnoses can give you a fright. Most times, however, the name of a foot condition sounds or looks scarier than it is. We offer products to relieve all types of foot problems and, for a limited time, you can receive a 13% discount off your order. Simply enter the discount code, hallow13, at checkout before midnight on Nov. 4th. What spooky ailments will you look to alleviate?

Metatarsalgia—characteristic of this foot problem is severe pain in the ball of the foot and stems from the nerves between the metatarsal bones that go from your toes down the middle of your foot. Nerve inflammation is the source of the pain. While your Podiatrist treats this disorder, you may find relief by using our Gel Dancer’s Pad. These self-stick, soft gel pads are designed to protect the sore area and shift weight away from the affected metatarsal.

Achilles Tendonitis—although this may sound like a podiatric problem that a Greek god might experience, it’s actually a common injury that afflicts both professional athletes and weekend warriors. When the long tendon that runs down the back of your leg connecting the calf to the heel is inflamed or overused it can cause extreme pain anywhere along the tendon. Increasing activity level, intensity and duration of workout too quickly can all cause Achilles tendonitis. Our Achilles Heel Sleeve contains a soft gel pad inside soft fabric that protects the tendon area and the back of the heel while gently compressing and reducing pressure around sore areas. The sleeve is designed for use in all styles of footwear and the pads can be washed and re-used many times.

Black Toenails—runners will often have one or more black toenails. The ghastly appearance is actually blood that has pooled under the nail as a result of the constant hitting of the toes up against the front of the shoe when running. This condition can also be painful. Our All Gel Toe Cap slips over the entire hurting toe to relieve pain and provide cushioning. This latex-free product comes in four sizes for maximum comfort.

Troublesome Toes

They may be little, but at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know that toes can cause big problems if they’re hurting. Toes are also subject to several different types of disorders and injuries. Below are some common toe troubles and products we offer to help relieve pain and increase comfort while they get resolved.

Turf Toe

It’s football and soccer season and that means more athlete’s suffering with Turf Toe. Essentially this is a sprain of the big toe. It can happen from repeatedly pushing off or from coming to a sudden stop and “jamming” your toe. Artificial turf is less giving than natural grass and this injury is more likely to occur when playing on this type of surface, hence the name. If you have been diagnosed with this condition or have had it before, we offer our Carbon Stabilizer Plates. These stabilizer plates come in men and women’s shoe sizes and fit inside your shoe to stiffen the sole and limit the range of motion of the forefoot and midfoot. They immobilize the toe joint and prevent it from bending during sports. They are extremely thin, making them comfortable in any sport or walking shoe.

Our Turf Toe/Bunion Strap is another great product that helps athletes and anyone else experiencing Turf Toe pain. Made of moleskin this strap is latex free and will help alleviate big toe pain during your sport season.

Crooked Toes

Sometimes toes get into trouble not from an injury but from a deformity. Hammertoe and other conditions can cause toes to bend into crooked or abnormal positions and move out of place. We offer products to help align toes properly and reduce friction with shoes that can create corns. Some of these include:

Toe Separators – Foam—soft foam cushions sore spots between toes and provide relief from rubbing and irritation. These are helpful for hammertoes and overlapping toes. Each package comes with two styles for maximum comfort.

Gel Spreader with Loop—perfect for soothing sore spots from bunions, hammertoes or overlapping toes, this gel spreader is soft and comfortable. The stretchy gel loop helps to hold the pad in place. This product is designed to separate, straighten and align the big toe and second toe while reducing friction.

Dealing with Ingrown Toenails

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that few toe conditions are more painful than an ingrown toenail. As the nail grows down and into the skin surrounding the nail bed, the toe becomes red, swollen, warm and incredibly tender and painful. Once the nail actually breaks the skin, there is the possibility for infection too. Ingrown toenails can have several causes including:

  • Improper trimming—cutting toenails too short and rounding the edges encourages nails to become ingrown
  • Tight shoes and socks—footwear that is too small for your feet squeezes toes together and makes ingrown nails more likely
  • Heredity—the tendency for ingrown nails can be genetic
  • Trauma—a past injury or activities like running where toes experience repeated pounding or pressure are a risk factor
  • Other nail conditions—fungal infections or losing a toenail from an accident can foster ingrown nails

Your Podiatrist will prescribe the correct treatment for your ingrown toenail depending on the severity and whether or not this is a chronic condition. In the meantime, we have a few products that can protect your hurting toe and enable you to continue your busy life.

Gel and Fabric Toe Cap

Soft, cushioning gel encased in a comfortable fabric slips over the entire toe to relieve pain and discomfort from ingrown toenails. The Gel and Fabric Toe Cap insulates toes against shock and pressure. The padded tip not only provides superior comfort and protection, it also slowly releases mineral oil to soften and moisturize the skin of the toes. Excess length can be cut and used to make a gel cushion for smaller toes. These toe caps can be washed and re-used over and over again.

These caps slip over the toe and have an extra padded tip the reduces pain and protects the toe from impact and pressure. Help for Patients with Hammer Toes

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that people with hammer toes suffer in more than one way. Most often caused by a muscle/tendon imbalance that leads to structural and neurological changes in the foot, this deformity takes its name from the bent position of the toe, which resembles a hammer. The tendency for a hammer toe can be inherited, and in some cases, it may be caused by a trauma to the toe. The abnormally bent toe can make walking uncomfortable and affect your balance. Hammer toes are a progressive condition but in the earlier stages the toes are still somewhat flexible. We offer products to help straighten and properly align the affected toe or toes.

Budin Splints—our Budin Splint is available for single, double or triple toes. Made of sturdy but comfortable foam and elastic material, the splint gently straightens up to three toes, helping them to lie straight. The Budin Splints allow patients to bear weight normally and will prevent the deformity from becoming worse. The splints have a very well-padded bottom to cushion the ball of the foot and provide extra comfort while standing. These splints are designed to fit in most shoes (choose left or right foot). They are washable and can be reused many times.

Triple Toe Gel Crest Pad—this latex free product features soft, stretchy premier gel with three loops. When worn with the toe crest on top the Triple Toe Gel Crest Pad lifts three toes up. Worn with the crest on the bottom, this product can help prevent toes from overlapping.

Relieving Corns

The second problem patients with hammer toes experience is painful corns on the top of the toes that are bent. This is the result of friction with footwear due to the deformity forcing the bent part of the toe up against the top of the shoe. To provide relief, we suggest the following products: All Gel Toe Cap, Gel EcoGel Tubes Ribbed, and our Toe Tube Foam.

If you have toe or foot that is hurting, chances are we have a solution to help increase comfort and decrease pain. To see all of our products, check our online catalog or visit our Deerfield Beach, FL store. Questions? Contact us at (866) FOOT-PAD (366-8723).

Improving Comfort for All Athletes

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads, we know that in many parts of the country, young athletes are already gearing up for the fall sports season. High schools take sports seriously and usually start even before school is in session with intense practice periods. For teens who have been inactive most of the summer this can be a recipe for podiatric disaster resulting in injuries and foot pain. Be sure that your teen is moving during the last weeks before the fall sports season starts. If they have an ongoing podiatric problem, it is strongly recommended that they get a checkup from their Podiatrist. Below are some common problems athlete’s face and some products that can help increase comfort while playing sports.

Turf Toe—this injury is a sprain of the big toe that can occur with a sudden and extreme pushing off with the foot. The injury is more apt to occur on artificial turf which can cause the foot to come to a stop more abruptly than natural grass fields, hence the name, Turf Toe. To help stiffen the sole of the shoe and limit the range of motion of the fore- and midfoot, we recommend our Carbon Stabilizer Plates. These are extremely thin and immobilize the toe to help prevent injury. They are available in men and women’s sizes and are also helpful in preventing shin splints, another common sports injury. The Turf Toe/Bunion Strap J-61 is also another great product to help alleviate pain with Turf Toe. This product adds extra support to the big toe and is latex free.

Heel Pain—many teens experience a condition known as Sever’s disease. This disorder causes severe heel pain due to the growth plate at the back of the heel not being fully developed and becoming inflamed. Gel Heel Pads provide incredible cushioning and provide comfort and pain relief with every step. These pads are designed to be worn in all types of shoes. They are washable and can be re-used many times.

Runner’s toe—a black toenail may be a cause for alarm unless you are a runner and used to this sight, which is caused by the constant impact of the toe against the front of the shoe. Our All Gel Toe Cap slips over the affected toe and helps insulate the toe against shock and pressure. Our Toe Caps – Rib Gel is another product we offer that can help relieve runner’s toe pain. The Toe Caps -Rib Gel comes in multiple size to fit any toe.

Taking Care of Toe Troubles

Toes–they may be little but at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know if they’re hurting, they can cause a big problem. When toes are in pain it makes it difficult to stand or walk. Wearing shoes can become a source of excruciating discomfort. Thankfully, we offer many products to help with a myriad of toe problems. Below are some of our more popular ones.

Ingrown Toenails—cutting toenails too short or rounding the edges can allow the nail start to grow into the skin surrounding the nail bed. Wearing shoes that are too tight can also foster the development of this painful condition. For some patients, ingrown toenails are a chronic problem. If you suffer with this disorder, consider our All Gel Toe Cap or the Gel and Fabric Toe Cap.

Hammertoes—so named because of the hammer-like appearance of the toe when it has this deformity, patients with hammertoes have to be careful to treat them in the early stages while the toes are still flexible. Without treatment, hammertoes can become rigidly bent in the misaligned position leading to difficulty with balance and secondary conditions of corns and calluses from the toe rubbing against the tops of shoes. Some products to try if you have a hammertoe include, the Triple Toe Gel Crest Pad, which can be worn with the crest on top of the toes to hold down three toes and keep them straight as well as provide a barrier to footwear. Some other helpful products are: our Budin Splint Triple Toe and our Foam Toe Separators.

Turf Toe—this injury is essentially a sprain of the big toe joint that can occur from a sudden jamming of the toe or repetitive stress on the joint. Less flexible shoes can help with turf toe as well as our Carbon Stabilizer Plates, which will limit the range of motion of the forefoot.

We have products to help with nearly any foot problem. To see all our products, view our online catalog or stop by our store in Deerfield Beach, FL. If you need more information about specific products, contact us at: (866) FOOT-PAD (366-8723).

In Recognition of Arthritis Awareness Month

May is Arthritis Awareness Month and at Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads we know how debilitating the condition can be. Arthritis can strike a patient of any age, sex or race. Currently, it’s estimated that 50 million adults in the United States and 300,000 children have some form of arthritis. The term arthritis actually covers over 100 different joint disorder. One in particular, rheumatoid arthritis, can result in crooked toes and other toe deformities such as hammertoes and claw toes. The best treatment outcomes for crooked toes occur when they are treated in their early stages and are still flexible.

Maintaining Proper Alignment

We offer several products that can help you keep toes that are moving out of place better aligned. Our Gel Buddy Splint separates crooked or overlapping digits using two soft stretchy loops with a spacer in between. It’s made of premier gel and latex-free. A versatile product that can be used to relieve pressure by elevating the tips of toes or keep toes from overlapping is the 1 Toe Gel Crest Pad. This product can be washed and re-used multiple time.

Alleviating Pain

Another problem when toes begin to bend or become deformed is pain caused by friction from shoes and from rubbing and pressing up against one another. Our Foam Toe Separators are soft and malleable. They cushion sore spots between toes and bring relief from the irritation caused when one toe rubs on another. The separators are made of non-medicated, medical-grade foam and are designed for use in all footwear styles. If you need both friction reduction and straightening, our Gel Spreader with Loop takes care of both issues. Designed specifically for use between the big toe and the second toe, this soft, flexible hourglass-shaped toe spreader features a look to keep it in place.

At Dr. Jill’s Foot Pads our aim is to provide relief and help with all types of foot disorders. Check our online catalog to see all of our products or visit our Deerfield Beach, FL store. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us by calling: (866) FOOT-PAD (366-8723).
